Alex Schulz

From an early age on, Alex had a lot of contact with all kinds of music. In retrospect, it was often the drummers who impressed him. However, he didn’t pick up the sticks himself before 2004, yet gaining experience with various bands and projects. He added the Davul in 2010, together with the medieval band Fatzwerk. In 2012, Oliver was looking for musicians for his project “Folk Noir“ – this is when Alex joined him.
1. What was your first contact with FAUN?
It was at a concert in my home town of Moosburg in 2009. I still remember it well… musically, it was too sweet and too soft for my taste at the time. You could also hardly see anything on stage because it was rather sparsely lit and full of fog. I guess I just didn’t understand the concept back then.
2. If you had to choose a favorite FAUN song, which would it be?
That would probably be Rosmarin XV – I just like everything about the song. The lyrics, the instrumentals, the fusion of old and modern, the floating/atmospheric middle section and the ecstatic ending. It picks me up 100%.
3. What do you find appealing about being in FAUN?
The many different instruments and the ways you can express yourself on them… and also how certain limitations force you to think outside the box and get creative.
4. You’ve been active behind the scenes for FAUN for a long time, how does it feel to move to the foreground?
Overwhelming. I’ve learned a lot about different types of folk music over the years. I’ve learned a lot from Rüdiger in particular, picking up a cool rhythm here and there or playing techniques for different instruments. Back then I could never have dreamed that it would be me playing the drums in Faun instead of him.
5. Is there anything else you would like to tell us?I totally enjoy sharing with such talented and equally lovely people what excites me the most, the love of music. I am positive about the future and look forward to everything that may come.
